A grand old lady of the seas

The steam yacht Venetia.

Designed  by Cox and King and built by Hawthorn & co Shipbuilders ,Leith Scotland in 1902 for F.W.Sykes as a luxury steam yacht.  Included in her history is her time in the U.S Navy as USS Venetia and credited with the sinking of three U Boats during W.W.1.
Her dimensions were 226 feet overall beam 27feet. and gross tonnage 589 tons. She was scrapped in 1968.

Wivenhoe Memories Exhibition. August Bank Holiday. 2014

The Wivenhoe Memories Exhibition.
August 23-24-25th
At the William Loveless Hall Wivenhoe   Sat. Nav. CO7 9AB
10am-6pm for the three days. Entry is free ,all donations to the Wivenhoe Mayors charity.

 Plenty of room for wheelchairs ,prams and push chairs. Parking available, free car park nearby.

Exhibition comprises of photographs, memorabilia, Family history research and some old maps.
Maritime history well covered, refreshments available. W.W.1. is also commemorated.
