Steam always brings back great memories.

a Clacton train leaving Wivenhoe Station in 1956 when we still had the lovely old steam trains.

I bet those coalmen had their Weetabix before work.

They had waiting rooms on the Clacton platform!

Wivenhoe between 1900-1930, it still has the gas lights on the platform and the telegraph system on the Clacton platform.

1950's Wivenhoe Station.

This could have been one of the best kept Stations on the G.E.R. line with it's immaculate clipped bushes.

The Clacton line was electrified in the 1950s. This photo is before then as no electric wires etc.

If i missed the school bus i had to use this train.

An old" J " Class Loco on the Wivenhoe to Brightlingsea run, Bill Sadler who runs the secondhand shop in station Rd. used to be Fireman on these Loco's.
I was told that a commuter coming home from london to Brightlingsea, fell asleep and when the train slowed down to go over the iron bridge at Alresford Creek, he thought he had arrived at Brightlingsea. He opened the door to step out in the dark and fell headlong into the creek, he was rescued and lived to tell the tale.

Who put that horse on the platform ?

An early image of the GER Station at Wivenhoe circa 1900+10 years, it also shows the shunting horse.
