Those were the days my friend .
A view along the Quay side at Wivenhoe in the 1950's, it still looks the same today except there are bollards everywhere.
They were both brilliant at catching shrimps.
Wivenhoe fishermen Guy Downing left, and Bill Woodward Right on board the fishing boat Christine in the North sea Canners Quay. c.1960.

The good old days.
This photo shows the old Rosabelle yacht stores with the white double doors and next door on the right is the Sailors Return pub which opened in 1860 and closed in 1909, so this photo might be c.1900.

Lovely shrimps.
One product of the North Sea Canning Company on the Quay at Wivenhoe, they also canned sprats and chickens..
The Canning company was started in Wivenhoe by Mr. Lewis Worsp in 1932. First starting in the old Rosabelle stores on the Quay before expanding and opening his new factory at the port end of the Quay . it is now called Smugglers Wharf.

loved those old sprats.
The North Sea Canning Company owned two of these boats CK54 and CK59, called the Fisher Girl and the Essex Girl. the Company canned sprats and sold them under the trade name of Fisher Girl brisling. In the summer they canned chickens. The owner was Lewis Worsp who lived next door on the Quay.
