Wivenhoe was famous once!!

the filming of Plotlands at Cooks shipyard.

Soon dry that out with a towel

Floods at Wivenhoe in the 1970's before the barrier these were common place.

One had a sad ending.

Two boats on Cook's slipway the Belama and the Baruka , i hope i have spelt these right. They were bound for the Solomon Islands.

They should still be building boats there

The Admiral Day  being fitted out in cook's basin the yard offices can be seen on the right, the small boat along side is the yard tug Alest

It all happens in the Solomon Islands

M.V. Baruku built at James .W.Cook Wivenhoe for the Solomon Islands.  The top photo shows her on trials in the river colne.  The bottom picture taken a few weeks ago shows her ashore on the rocks  in the Solomon Islands after her prop shaft fractured.  If there is anyone out there who worked on the boat her new owner would love to here from you. you can contact him in the Solomon Islands.

Ref "Cooks Yard" Feb 3 2014. This photo is shown there with comments , based on the two ships in line on berth the year would be 1979. they were launched 1979 Belama and 1980 Baruka, both left spring 1980 and arrived Soloman Islands, 3mths later.  Thanks Mike.
