I bet a lot of you can remember Freddie Chapman who sold shrimps at the top of Scheregate steps in Colchester.

His cart was made by my Grandad and Gt Uncle : Sally Mc Andrew.

The Shead Family go back a long way as mariners.

The Master and crew of the yacht Seamaid, the sailor first left is Arthur Shead born Wivenhoe 1877.

The Loss of another Wivenhoe mariner.

Jack Durrell Green won the Marconi award as a telegraphist when training ashore in H.M.S. Agamemnon battleship he died 3/9/1916 from from disease in R.n. hospital, Malta he was buried in the Royal Naval cemetery, Capuccini, Malta.

The famous old sailing ship Cap- Pillar, whose remains now lay under the old dry dock on the Wivenhoe Port housing estate.

Great Wivenhoe ship builders.

Mr. John Harvey 1830-1901

Mr. Thomas Harvey shown left 1803-1885 was a Wivenhoe ship builder of some fame, when he retired from shipbuilding he went into land speculation.  he purchased the Wivenhoe House estate after the death of William Brumell and sold off the land as building plots.  Thus we have park road, queens road,rebow road and some plots in the High Street.

His son, seen right who was John Harvey 1830-1901. took over the wivenhoe yard and also opened a yard at Ipswich.

Captain and crew of the steam yacht Venitia, collecting for the Titanic disaster in 1912-3 outside the grosvenor hotel in maldon road Colchester
In 1915 the Venitia was requisitioned for the first world war , most of her crew probably volunteered to go with her.

That picture was taken infront of the Nottage, where my grandparents, Harold and Molly Green were caretakers. These were the On one side of the Nottage was a card tombola and the other side was the egg and bacon game! Both stalls were for the Wivenhoe Charity Cup Commission, which my Dad Maurice Green was Treasurer I remember the Regattas clearly, they were packed, with lots of things happening on the water!!

Well, i never knew the Green's came from Grimsby.?

Samuel Green was born at Harwich in 1839.  He married Eliza Southgate  and one of his Sons was James (Friday Green). He died in 1921 at Grimsby ,Linconshire.
He was James Samuel Green's Grandfather.
