There was plenty of work in the yard in those days

Shipwrights and joiners, next to the Birkenhead Miller in Cook's shipyard .1980's
Can anyone name these lads?

Not sure who the youngsters are, but the guy in the white apron is Robert "Bob" Child.

I knew some of the people in the picture from when I worked at Cooks. Left to right unknown, Pat Rilley, unknown, at back Allan (toosie) Barass, latter to take over as joiner foreman, Bob Wilcox I think?, Dave tye at front, Dick Woods, unknown, unknown & Bob Child(white apron), unknown. Thanks Steve.

I know the faces but can't remember the names

All local lads who played for the Wivenhoe rangers football club 1950-1960's.

Back row L/R Les Kemble, Alan Pullen, Clive Butt, ? Kemble, Les Green, Mick Martin, Bones Harris, Pat Hatch, ?, Ted Howard. Front row L/R, Alan Green, ?, Bill Braddock ,Ivan Payne, Bill Hill.

Thanks bluetrane for additional information.

Hello, I think the man on the far left is Ron Kemble (my great-uncle, no less!). He was Dennis' father. Les' son is David, and the goalie doesn't look like David to me! ;) There is a photo of Ron as a younger man here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/78738438@N00/3079681629/in/set-72157623426460428.
Thanks to Helen Barrell for information.

The goalie next to Clive Butt is Dennis Kemble, Les's son. Think the one next to Alan Green is one the Hammond boys.
Thanks to Dawn Bird.
Think the man next to Pat Hatch is Jack Harris

That was a great little shop.

Mr and Mrs. Jack Mallet outside their shop in East St. What a great shop that was.
I remember Mr. Newman before Jack and before Mr. Newman there was a Mrs. Chick, where you could buy a stick of chalk for 1 halfpenny.

That shop was so amazing! It had that great little brick-made step that went up to the door. And you could by one brass washer for about 1p or something, rather than nowadays when you have to go to town and buy £5 of them in a massive bag. And also... they ran a DIY shop and their surname was Mallet. I just wish my grandparents had run a brewery, quite frankly!

Lovers lane.

Lovers Lane Wivenhoe ,or as we know it Rectory Hill looking towards Wivenhoe.
The word camp refers to the WW1 camp on the Glebe field behind Glebe house.

This was probably our first public hall

The Forester's Hall opened in 1904,funded by the Ancient order of Foresters. The hall also possessed two small ante rooms on the side. it stands near the Co-op in the Avenue and has been converted into flats. Old locals can remember it at one time as being converted into a plastics factory.
During W.W.2 Saturday evening dances were held here to raise money for the "Welcome Home" fund - at the end of the war the money was given to those who served in the forces during the war. The hall was also used as a cinema around this time. Thanks to Tony Forsgate for the last paragraph.
