The steam yacht Vanessa.
Built in 1899 for Mr A Salvin Bowlby of Gilston Hall ,Harlow ,Essex, she was originally called the Golden Eagle. She was 159 feet in length and weighed 356 tons and was powered by a 3 cylinder steam engine.
She served in W.W.1 and W.W.2 and was named Carina. She was returned to her owner after the war, and renamed Vanessa
The Vanessa carried some Wivenhoe crew, and this is where we get the name of Vanessa Drive in Wivenhoe..
