They didn't have a fish and chip shop then.

East Street Wivenhoe, showing the old 17century cottages which have since been demolished. This view is looking towards Anchor Hill. The White plastered Cottage is now the Fish and Chip Shop.

These old cottages were still standing in 1915, but were demolished sometime between then and 1922.

Good place to spin a yarn.

The Ship at Launch Inn, located on the Quay at Wivenhoe. Originally called the Woolpack in the 1790's it was renamed sometime in the 1800's.  Behind the inn were located the Wivenhoe Spa bath's.
All these buildings have now been demolished.

Two different ways of boating.

The sailing boat in the foreground with the glass roofed cabin is the Viga, once owned by Charlie Sainty. The Fishing vessel behind is the Golden Dawn, She was a side trawler, owned by the Green's of Wivenhoe.

Vosper's Yard at Wivenhoe, some time during WW11. I think the craft is a high speed rescue craft.

Some elderly Wivenhoe Residents seated on the Quay, when you could find a seat to sit on.

What a grand House.

Wivenhoe Hall, dating from early medieval times, once owned by the De Vere Family in the 1450's.
It suffered from fire damage in 1927, and was demolished. The site of the Hall is now the King George V playing field.
