Mrs Goodwin was the Mother of Mrs Payne Wife of Mr. Payne of East St. who kept the dairy there.
My guess would be the north side because she appears to be standing in direct sunlight.

If you look at a later image "They didn't have a fish and chip shop then" you can see this type of building near Anchor Hill end of East St. It looks like there is some kind of cellar access which is also visible in the later picture.
