1953 Floods.

Coasters on the river Colne at Wivenhoe ,the vessell behind the coaster is the trial barge for testing outboard engines, the company who owned the barge were Whitehead Engineering of Harlow , Essex.
There Wivenhoe factory was located on the old Wivenhoe Shipyard premisses which was also the site of Wivenhoe Port. The skipper of the barge was Peter Hammond and the engineer was Cyril Man of Brightlingsea.

They should still be building boats there

It all happens in the Solomon Islands


M.V. Baruku built at James .W.Cook Wivenhoe for the Solomon Islands.  The top photo shows her on trials in the river colne.  The bottom picture taken a few weeks ago shows her ashore on the rocks  in the Solomon Islands after her prop shaft fractured.  If there is anyone out there who worked on the boat her new owner would love to here from you. you can contact him in the Solomon Islands.

Great shot, showing port side, including the areas, side shell and frames forward of W.T. Bulkhead Fr.34,Engine Room and engine girders Fr 23 (W.T. Bulkhead 23 not erected above end of girders at this time,)Ballast Keel between Frs 19 and 63. on.
