He needed the ink well for all the replies he had to send.

This silver ink well was given to Captain Albert Turner of Wivenhoe, skipper on King George V's, J Class yacht R.Y.S.  Britannia, on his Marriage 27th March 1930, from the members of the Royal household, Buckingham Palace.
