Guy Downing was my Uncle. He lived in Broadway House, Wivenhoe, along with his bachelor brother Frank and sister Bessie. In later years Bessie suffered mental Illness and was known to buy 7lbs of sausage meat to stuff the Christmas turkey. She also cooked rice puddings for the chickens which the 3 kept in the yard of Broadway House. This was around late 1950's early 60's.
