A photograph of the grocers shop near to the junction with Station Rd.. The photo. was taken in 1894,
it is now the Hairdresser's. i remember in the 1950's it was Mr. Ravens grocery shop. He keep sugar,flour and tapioca in sacks on the floor, butter was in square blocks on the counter, the cheese was cut from a large round cheese with a wire and the bacon and ham on a revolving slicer. Currants and sugar were packed in little blue bags.
Before the Ravens , the shop had been owned by Mr.Jimmy Moore and his brother.

Sally, thanks for the comments , i think Arthur Daniells butchers shop was opposite your Grandads shop next to the Greyhound pub, thats where my Mum bought her Brawn, uhkk!

....and it was Arthur's the Butchers as well, I remember going there to get Grandad (Tilf)a brawn for his supper!! Best brawn ever!!!
